in my ipod nano 5G, i have a 7h audio book but when i try to fast forward it doesnt go to the right time?

so by fast forwarding i mean, pressing the center button so you get the diamond shape on the time line thing, well when i scroll to say 2.53 it is actually playing 1.23. i hope you kind of get what i am saying!
does anyone know how to fix this?? please!
